Modern Hybrid Teas (Large Flowered Roses)The correct title for this group of roses is a contentious subject. Early Hybrid Teas were exactly that, hybrids of the Tea roses but, over the years, the genealogy has become complicated. They were recently reclassified as Large Flowered roses but this is often ignored as many find it difficult to think of them as anything else but good old H.T's.Whatever title you choose they are a huge family. They usually bear solitary blooms, ideal for the flower arranger, although there are a few that produce small clusters. Within their ranks are colours for every taste, with many boasting a perfume. Generally they are quite short, bushy and free flowering over a long period. Their use in the garden is manifold. They are ideal in pots for balconies and patios, especially when under-planted with trailing annuals. En-masse they make superb bedding but equally good specimen plants and they mix well with other genera.
